When should you plant flower bulbs?
Flower bulbs are planted in late autumn or in the spring. Spring flowering bulbs, such as tulips, hyacinths and daffodils are planted in the autumn, from September to December. Summer flowering bulbs, such as dahlias, gladioli and lilies are planted in the spring, after the risk of frost has gone (often at the end of April) up to and including May.
How can you store flower bulbs?
Not all flower bulbs are perennial and can be left in the ground during the winter. Tulips, for example, are basically annuals (except for the botanical species). Tulip bulbs and dahlia tubers can be lifted from the ground after flowering and stored in a shed for the following season.
