Nanus Gladioli: Charming colour accents for any garden
Nanus gladioli are the smaller-sized cousins of the classic gladioli, ideal for those who like more subtle flowers in the garden. With their height of around 60-70 centimetres, they are perfect for border fronts or as a colourful filler between other plants. The nanus gladioli come in a variety of colours: from soft pastel shades to rich, deep colours and bloom symestrically upwards.
Why choose Nanus gladiolus?
What makes nanus gladioli special is their resistance to wind. Being quite small makes them less prone to buckling, making them a reliable choice for windy locations or for gardeners who prefer not to place plant supports. They are also particularly suitable for flower pots and containers, making them a fantastic choice for balconies and terraces.
Planting and care
Plant these little powerhouses in spring, after the risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs about 10-15 centimeters deep and 10-15 centimeters apart, with the pointed side up. Nanus gladioli love a regular drink of water, but it is important that their feet are not standing in the water.
Once in bloom, they will require little maintenance. Remove spent flowers to send energy to new growth and give them a little bulb fertiliser monthly during the growing period. After flowering, you can dig up the bulbs and store them dry and frost-free, so you can enjoy their splendour again next season.
Nanus gladioli offer a charming, colourful touch to any garden. With their attractive flowers and easy maintenance, they are suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners.
