Jowey Frambo, the raspberry-coloured dahlia
The Dahlia Jowey Frambo is a raspberry-coloured flower shaped like a ball. The flowers are round and filled with petals. The Jowey Frambo variety is one of the varieties in the Jowey collection. Jowey' Dahlias are all from the Dahlia breeder from Flanders: Jozef Weyts (Jo-Wey).
The Jowey Frambo has sturdy stems, making it less susceptible to wind. For now, we recommend installing a dahlia frame/plant support when the plant is still small. This allows the plant to grow firmly and without worry.
Its sturdy stems make the Jowey Frambo extremely suitable as a cut flower. It is therefore also widely used in picking gardens. In bouquets and flower arrangements, it is both colourful and strong. Highly recommended!
Planting Dahlia Jowey Frambo
You plant the Jowey Frambo dahlia from April to May. It is important that there is no frost when you plant, otherwise the tuber will freeze. Dahlias like a sunny spot. You plant dahlia tubers about 15 cm deep and keep a planting distance of 20 to 30 cm. See all about planting dahlias here.
Caring for Dahlia Jowey Frambo
After planting, it is important to take good care of your Jowey Frambo. With the right steps, your flowers will soon bloom beautifully in summer. Taking care of dahlias is very easy, but you have to take your time.
- Water regularly to keep the soil moist.
- Pinch out the growing tip when the plant has made 3 to 4 clumps of leaves for a fuller plant.
- Give a little fertiliser every month.
- Cut away spent flowers to encourage new flower growth.
- At the end of the season: if it has frozen, you can cut off the yellow leaves and remove the tuber from the ground.
