Anemone bulbs

Anemone bulbs can be planted in autumn as well as in spring. Anemones are delicate bulbous flowers, some species of which naturalise. They flower both in spring and summer. They come in red, pink, blue, purple and white and grow up to 30 cm high. There are single and double-flowered anemones. The bulbs of anemones look like small, hard, dark-coloured tubers.

How should you plant anemones?

Anemone bulbs should be plant in well drained soil, with a preference for fertile, sandy and light soil. They do well in sheltered spots or between rocks. Plant the anemone bulbs about 7 cm deep. Keep about 10 cm distance between each bulb. For anemone bulbs, it is important to soak the hard tubers in water overnight. The tubers are then softer and will root and grow faster.
